Four faculty members received the Board of Trustees Award for Excellence in Research, the university's highest honor for outstanding research contributions to a discipline or to society. The award includes a framed citation and a check for $1,000.
Eduardo Sontag, professor of mathematics, FAS New Brunswick, was honored for his energetic and creative leadership in applied mathematics and in engineering; his more than 200 publications, which have introduced influential new research directions and insightful technical innovations; and his contributions in the field of control theory, both in its theoretical development and in its applications for practical methods for control-system analysis and design.
